“For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our heart to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us. We are hard pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down but not destroyed – always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body.” 2 Corinthians 4:6-10
With enough stories to fill at least three volumes of books, here is a brief introduction to this duo.
Growing up in quite different homes yet sharing a love of music, Dave and Shelly have been inseparable since the ages of eight and nine. Married in their teens, they have raised three children to be successful adults who are now pursuing careers and raising their own families. To date they have seven grandchildren. When life has thrown them curve balls they have stood together in each storm. They are overcomers in every sense of the word.
It was only natural that a decision for Jesus and Life in the Kingdom would be made together – in May 1992. Ministry life has seen them head up kids, youth, creative, family and itinerant ministries. They have planted and pastored churches throughout Australia. It is their desire to “Only do what the Father is doing” and as such they have lived all over Australia in obedience to His call.
They are often referred to as a modern day “Pricilla and Aquila”. You rarely find one without the other and as a ministry team they fit together hand in glove. If you would like to know more of their journeys grab them for a coffee any time.
A loveable larrikin, Dave has earnt his stripes from a life that was unconventional and full of risk and adventure. Dave grew up the youngest of four boys in a family that loved life and each other. They toured parts of Australia with his parents in the country music industry.
As a teenager Dave was a handful and developed addictions to alcohol, drugs and pornography. He became a father at 15. While still performing in the Country Music industry, Dave was a tradie working as a cabinet maker. In 1988 he amputated three fingers turning him more to his addictions. Some would say he became rebellious and out of control. Marriage soon followed, but it was no easy thing, as Dave and Shelly often fought due to their dysfunction.
But then Jesus… Dave let Jesus into places of hurt and pain, and was radically set free from his addictions which included smoking 100 cigarettes a day. Wanting to get away from his old lifestyle, a decision to move to Perth in 1993 set him on the path and a call into ministry.
Life threw Dave another curve ball with a spinal injury in 1995. He was in a wheel chair and used a catheter. The short version is he was miraculously healed of this injury, through a near death experience a few years later.
After this healing God turned Dave’s focus and he went even deeper with his faith. He commenced Bible college and has predominately been in full time ministry ever since. Dave has a love for Jesus, to see signs; wonders and the Kingdom of God come to communities throughout Australia. His passion is to see the presence and ministry of the Holy Spirit evident in every household and in the Church. Along with his deep love for the Word of God Dave is one who preaches with authority and ministers powerfully under the unction of the Holy Spirit. Being relevant in ministry to Dave is about being real.
Shelly has a powerful testimony of growing up at the hands of a psychopathic father and experiencing domestic violence and abuse of every kind from a young age.
An abused child, a teenage mother, mid-term miscarriage, depression, ovarian cancer and even time in prison have not stopped her faith in the Lord or living out His call on her life. Highly resilient and self-aware, Shelly has pressed into the Lord during the tough times. With the guidance of the Holy Spirit and belief in the promises in scripture, she has been able to turn around every situation and circumstance that has tried to take her down.
Shelly knows that her faith and wholeness is a progression and despite the freedom she has received, the scars and memories from her childhood are part of the journey. Shelly has an assistance dog “Zoe” the cavalier as part of her treatment for PTSD. She feels this shows that God uses “Broken vessels” for His Glory. She has a wonderful way of being relatable to just about everyone. Her easy going nature and love for people is something that most find amazing when they hear her story.
These days she is comfortable in who she is, a child of God! She loves life! Her passion is seeing others released from their oppression and past, forgiven and alive in all God has called them into through His beautiful son Jesus. Shelly loves being creative, is a worshipper, a songwriter and has a strong teaching gift. She moves in faith for the things unseen and the prophetic with a seer anointing and prophetic song.
